Thailand Communications: Dialing Guide
Basic Calling Information
Area Codes and Local Numbers
- Area codes are one or two digits in Thailand.
- Local numbers in Thailand contain eight digits.
- When calling between cities within Thailand, dial the Domestic Access Code ("0") followed by the area code and then the eight-digit national number. Do not dial this access code when calling from another country.
- When calling Laos from Thailand, dial 007 + 856 + area code + local number.
- When calling Malaysia from Thailand, dial 09 + 06 + area code + local number.
Mobile Phones
- Mobile Phone numbers in Thailand contain nine digits. The first digit is always "8" or "9."
- When calling a mobile phone from within Thailand, always dial the Domestic Access Code ("0") before the nine-digit number. Do not dial this access code when calling from another country.
Tones
- Ring tone: Equal tones, separated by long pauses
- Busy tone: Short equal on and off tones
