Nua Bye Ga Pon
Beef sautéed with Asian basil and a few vegetables is a popular Thai dish. This recipe features the flavors of garlic, onions, basil, and chilies, combined with the juiciness of sautéed mushrooms. Chicken or shrimp are often substituted for beef, but the other ingredients remain constant. Recipe Servings: Serves 4

Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp (45 ml) vegetable oil
- 1 lb (453 g) steak, sliced
- 1 clove garlic, chopped
- 1/2 onion, sliced
- 1/2 cup (40 g) mushrooms, sliced
- 2 chilies, sliced
- 1 Tbsp (15 ml) fish sauce
- 1 tsp (5 ml) sugar
- 3/4 cup (19 g) basil, chopped
Directions
- Heat 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of oil in a wok. Add meat and cook quickly, stirring, until brown. Remove from pan and set aside.
- Separately, heat remaining oil. Sauté garlic, onion, mushrooms, and chilies until soft.
- Dissolve sugar in fish sauce.
- Add to cooking pan along with meat. Sauté until heated through.
- Add basil and cook just until leaves wilt.
- Serve immediately with rice.
